nothing more

confusion is my essence
since the moment of my conception
I have been enveloped
in chaos
don’t arrive expecting me to comfort you
don’t allow me to rest my skull on your shoulder
I will get too close
& harm you

when I have gone away you will forget me
if you do retain a memory
of my presence
it will be that I was a wind that did not linger
I was the wind & nothing more

By Jim Wittenberg from his chap book of poems 'Haunt Me In The Morning' .
